Sitecore tip 19: create a page alias for use in communications

Sometimes your site structure becomes more complex and deep and URL’s are sometimes no longer suitable to use in communication. Imagine a landingspage for a whitepaper like:

https:// www.yourdomain.com/sitecorestart

Not that easy to remember and to use in your communications. But there is a solution for it. In Sitecore you can create aliases for pages. So you can create something like

for the whitepaper page in the example above. When visitors enter that URL in the browser Sitecore will redirect the visitor to the correct page while the short URL remains visible. Nice!

Setting this up is easy. From both the Content Editor and Experience Editor open the Presentation tab and click on the Aliases button. In the pop-up, enter the aliases as you please. Don’t worry about duplicates. Sitecore will check this so duplicates are not allowed.
